Religions module for year 9 students (Level B2)

This material is aimed at students in year 9, in cooperation with the Hungarian Literature teacher, reinforcing the Bible studies in Literature classes.

Parts of the module work as independent units and can be cherry-picked for the needs of your group.

Overview of the material:


Bible (2 lessons) 

  • Reading/listening to some culturally relevant parts of the Bible. Worksheets with “fill the blank” tasks

Introduction to the 5 world religions (2-3 lessons)

  • What is religion? (Ss try to define it, compare ideas)

  • What religions have you heard of? (Brainstorming)

  • Watching a video together on the 5 world religions, comprehension/discussion

  • Christianity - reading together, finding answers to our basic questions (example task for the next step)

The 5 World Religions and Further Tasks:

World religions - mosaic reading and group research (groups of 4)

  • Groups work on 4 more religions (each group on all 4): ideally 1 student - 1 religion 

  • Share knowledge within groups, find answers to our basic questions in relation to each religion - try to remember these (teach each other)

  • Individual quiz on these 5 religions

Holidays presentations (groups of 2-3 students)

  • Each group chooses a different holiday, making sure that all 5 religions are represented

  • Prepare to present holiday to the class (PPT)

Christianity:    Easter, Christmas

 Islam:             Ramadan, Al-Hijra (Islam New Year)

 Judaism         Passover (Pesach), Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year), Hanukkah

 Hinduism:    Diwali, Maha Shivaratri (The Great Night of Shiva)

 Buddhism:  Wesak (Buddha’s birth)

Other religions infographics (groups of 2-3 or individual work)

  • Choose another religion (could be a Christian denomination, or any other religion we haven’t talked about)

  • Prepare an infographic OR a written presentation of it (template given, use pics)

  • Prepare multiple choice / true-false questions about it for a class Kahoot

  • Study other groups’ work, prepare for Kahoot

  • Kahoot
